Frequently Asked Questions
What areas do you serve?
Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Citrus Park, Lutz, Seffner, Brandon, Riverview
What does the installation process look like?
It starts with an initial assessment to determine whether the space is suitable for an installation or not. If the land is too sloped or prone to heavy water drainage, we may not be able to do the job, unfortunately. The second step is getting a basic contract signed – we’ll send it over electronically and pick it up in-person along with the initial payment (50% down). We’ll also confirm and sign-off on the paint color during this second visit. Once payment is received, we’ll start scheduling the work.
This is still a side-hustle for us, so we set aside a week to get the frame built and painted (off-site). On-site work consists of 4 total workdays, assuming we don’t get in trouble with the rain. Ideally, we will be able to get the pavers and dirt delivered on a Monday and complete the base and some of the frame the same day. Day two we will finish the frame and netting. Once this work is complete, we’ll have you sign off and submit the other 50% of the payment. Day three we will dump the dirt, install the solar watering system, grow lights and herb boxes/bag. The fourth and final day will be for touch-up paint and to answer any questions you might have, as well as to provide you with the various goodies that come with your Plants Pants Raised Garden Bed!
The whole process from receipt of the initial payment to completion should (assuming minimal rain) be complete in 3 weeks – at the most.
Does the Plants Pants Garden Bed come with seeds or plants?
No, we don’t include any seeds or starter plants but we do include several things that’ll help your gardening: copper fungicide spray, Trichoderma powder, neem oil and Bacillus Thuringiensis.
What colors are you able to paint the frame?
We use oil-based Behr paint, so any color on the Behr color wheel can be used. We will bring a sample tile of the color you choose with us when we pick up the signed contract and initial deposit and have you sign-off on the paint color as well.
Do I need to be home or provide anything for the install?
You need to be present on Day Two and Day Four of our on-site work to sign off and to go over the watering system and grow lights. We don’t need anything for the work, however, an outlet we could run an extension cord from and a garden hose are very helpful.
Will there be any damage to my lawn from the installation?
We will lay down plywood on heavily trafficked pathways – mostly areas around gates and walkways that access the backyard. There may be some slight wear on other areas of your lawn, particularly around the Garden Bed, but nothing that won’t dissipate after a couple mows.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Currently, we only accept payment via check.
TIPS & TRICKS
ChatGPT is a Gardener’s Best Friend
AI Models such as ChatGPT, Grok and Google Gemini are excellent problem solvers for a gardener. If leaves start to look bad, take a picture of them and ask for solutions.
Feed the Soil, not Just the Plants
Add compost or worm castings every few months — healthy soil = healthy plants. Mycorrihizal fungi, Trichoderma and organic slow-release fertilizer are also good additives.
Rotate Crops Season to Season
Don’t grow the same thing in the same spot every time; it helps prevent pests and disease buildup.
Mulch IS magic
A thin layer of mulch keeps moisture in, weeds out, and soil temps steady.
Harvest often
The more you pick, the more most plants produce — especially herbs and greens.
Morning Water > Evening Water
Keep leaves dry overnight and it’ll reduce fungal issues.
Watch the leaves
Yellow, droopy, leaves with holes will tell you what’s wrong before it’s too late.
don’t fight nature — use it
Ladybugs can be a nice helper if you run into pest problems.
don’t overcrowd your bed, stay away from space hogs
Spacing depends on the veggie/fruit (use ChatGPT!). Cucumbers, zucchini, and melons will take over the entire bed if you let them, stay away!
label everything
You’ll swear you’ll remember what you planted —- but you wont :)
Don’t get Discouraged and Celebrate the wins!
You might run into some troubles. Don’t get discouraged if your first crop doesn’t meet expectations. Even one perfect tomato or pepper means you did something awesome!
